I use hair because it is a fragile, delicate medium. It is "barely there", like the fleeting nature of the dreams I often depict in my imagery.
I like to reference Victorian hair work, because it simultaneously functions as a chilling memento mori while enduring as the poignant physical presence of a loved one. Hair is both sensual and repelling.
Kate Kretz attended The Sorbonne in Paris, earned her BFA from SUNY Binghamton, and her MFA from The University of Georgia.
